In your future classrooms, rubrics will be an important tool that you use when scoring assessments.
Rubrics are a tool that educators use to measure and track students’ progress in relation to the learning goal.
The most effective rubrics consist of components that represent a combination of the student learning goals and the teacher’s or writing program’s rhetorical values.
Rubrics are important, but there are limitations. Remember, the five common components teachers use to evaluate student work today are based on the five most common types of comments collected in a 1961 study. This means that the standardized rubric was not developed for the purpose of measuring and tracking student progress, but for the purpose of making “readers”, or teachers, more reliable and efficient.
